When we were preparing our trip to New York, we believed that in order to enjoy the city we would have to spend a lot of money. Because New York is reputed to be an expensive destination. And if there is something expensive, this is usually the accommodation. If you want to save money, for the moment leave forgetting to stay in a luxury hotel in downtown Manhattan, with breakfast and transfer included. Apart from this, there are other ways to find cheap accommodation in New York. How? We tell you in this post.

Let us first clarify something. All the accommodations we recommend meet certain conditions:

  • They have a private room for 2 people.
  • The price is for 7 nights.
  • We have looked for dates with 6 months view (in New York you have to book early!)

Obviously, it is best to find a cool little hotel or hostel in Manhattan. Of course, easy-easy is not. But hey, we recommend you take a look at downtown areas like Kips Bay, Murray Hill, Bowery or the West Village To see if with something (much) of luck, you can find accommodation that is not too expensive. And that in New York means around 100-140 $ / Night :-p

But sometimes it's worth it get away from the center from New York to get lower prices (expecting to have accessible public transportation that takes you to the most interesting sites).

We recommend this option if you plan to stay in Airbnb floors. We stayed in a room of a super handsome pool in Astoria (Queens neighborhood) that we loved. If you decide to use this platform, here you have € 25 discount 😉

Astoria It is a quiet and safe neighborhood, with single-family houses and many restaurants of all kinds (and for all budgets). From the park in front of the river there are also cool views of Manhattan. The Astoria metro leaves you in 25 minutes in the very Central Square.

There are areas of Harlem That also doesn't seem like a bad option to stay. In addition the connections with downtown Manhattan are good.

But there are other neighborhoods where it is worth looking for cheap accommodation in New York are:

Jersey City (in New Jersey), from where transportation to Manhattan is quite fast and simple (there are buses that run throughout the day and night). Although it is a very large area and you will have to investigate where exactly the accommodation is. Eye: you have to pay a fee per night / stay. Inform yourself well or the “play” may come out quite expensive at the end.

BrooklynIn reality, it is increasingly difficult to find cheap accommodation in Brooklyn, but sometimes offers come out and we personally would not hesitate to catch them. Brooklyn is a pass, but we recommend that you inform yourself before about the street of the accommodation, there are some neighborhoods a bit dodgy. Also keep in mind that there are areas of Brooklyn quite badly connected to Manhattan.

Now, here are our proposals for cheap accommodation in New York:

The thing is like this: if what you want is to pay little, be in a central place and sleep in a double room, you will have to assume that you will not find a luxury hotel. But if you think that you only want the room to sleep and that you will spend all day kicking the city, what else does it matter? With the room decent, enough, right?

If this is your case, check out the World Hotel in Chinatown. The price we have found is € 262 for 7 nights (less than € 40 per night!).

  • Point in favor: obviously the price and location.
  • Point against: the rooms are tiny and seem to come out of the '60s.

In this case nothing fails: the price of the hotel is good, the location (within walking distance of Central Park, West Side) is very good, the facilities are new and clean, but there is a negative side ... only sometimes they offer offers. We talked about the Broadway Hotel & Hostel.

When we did the search, 7 nights in a double room cost € 395 (about € 56 per night) that to be New York is a chollazo.

  • Point in favor: everything is very good! Obviously it is not a julo hotel but it is frankly good.
  • Point against: prices vary a lot, so you have to be lucky.

The truth is that there are a few little hotels, simple but clean and beautiful, where to stay in New York (Manhattan) without having to sell a kidney. € 70-80 (€ 35-40 per person) seems like a fairly correct price to stay in one of the most fantastic cities in the world. If you are with us and you think it's a fair price check out these hotels:

West Side YMCA, score of 7.2 on booking, next to Central Park!

Vanderbilt YMCA, score of 7.2 on booking, has 2 swimming pools!

Hotel Mimosa, score of 8.3 on booking, in Chinatown, super central!

Hotel 91, rating 7.4 on booking, very good value for money, and next to Manhattan Bridge!

And if you have a higher budget ($ 100-140 / night) you will not have much trouble getting a good hotel in Manhattan. A chain that we like very much and has modern, cheap and well-located hotels is Pod: check out Pod 39 and Pod 51.

Here we leave you a banner that is updated with the best deals what is currently for stay in New York.
