Florence is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy and the world. Reasons for this city, cradle of the Italian Renaissance, you fall in love are not lacking. But What is the best of Florence? What are the things you should not miss? Here we propose 30 things to see and do in Florence, the most famous city in Tuscany.

If you want more information, visit our GUIDE TO A TRIP TO FLORENCE

/ Enjoy the views of the city from the Campanile di Giotto after having climbed its 414 steps!

/ Marvel at the Uffizi museum, one of the most beautiful in the world and probably the most complete about the Renaissance, with works by Michelangelo, Giotto, Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli and Rafael. Visit it for free (we recommend you buy the ticket without queue to save time) or on a guided tour of the city, with tickets to the Uffizi museum and the Galleria dell'Accademia.

/ Surround the Battistero di San Giovanni and visit the Porta del Paradiso.

/ Visit the Cathedral of Santa Maria in Fiore It was built by the best architects of the time (from Giotto to Brunelleschi, Vasari, Lorenzo Ghiberti ...) and climb to the famous dome Brunelleschi (eye to be taken 436 steps!)

/ Stroll through the Old Bridge with its gold and silver shops and enjoy the views of the Arno River.

Tip: do this free tour of course, leave a tip

/ Fall in love with the local food: Do not miss Fiorentina, an exquisite and giant ribeye! (My friend Spok says that the best is in the restaurant l'Brindellone).

If you want to learn more about Tuscan cuisine, an original idea is to do a cooking course (and you will also learn some delicious dish to do at your home again!). More info and reservations.

If on the contrary cooking is not your thing, but you like to eat (and much), you can participate in a food-tour. This lasts 1 hour and a half and you can enjoy a tasting of wines, cheeses and sausages, sweet wine and cookies with almonds and handmade ice cream.

/ See the frescoes of Santa Maria Novella, one of the most beautiful churches in the city.

/ Improvise a picnic in the Boboli Gardens to escape tourists and asphalt.

/ Visit the beautiful church of San Miniato al Monte from where you can enjoy good views of Florence.

/ Walk through Piazza della Signoria, the main square of Florence, full of attractions such as the Palazzo Vecchio where the town hall is, the Loggia della Signoria and the replica of David by Michelangelo.

/ Try to take a whole picture at Palazzo Vecchio, you will see that it is almost impossible mission since the Torre di Arnolfo measures 94 meters!

/ Enjoy a good italian ice cream (And don't be ripped off: at most you pay € 1.5!).

/ See the Basilica of Santa Croce with the tombs of Dante and Miguel Angel.

/ Take a walk around the Palazzo Pitti, (it has nothing to do with the parakeet whose head falls off). It was the former headquarters of the Medici family, the most famous and prestigious in Florence. They did not have a bad time!

A good idea to break the ice is to sign up for a free tour of Florence. Free, even if you leave a tip!

/ Soak up art in the Galleria dell'Accademia (buy tickets without a tail here): here is also the original David by Miguel Angel!

/ Know the Florence markets: The most beautiful are those of Plaza San Lorenzo, Mercato Centrale and Mercato Nuovo (Porcellino) in Via Porta Rossa.

/ Try a glass of Chianti, one of the most famous wines of Tuscany. And better if you do excursion in the Chianti region itself. There are many agencies that organize daily trips that include transportation, guide in Spanish, visit wineries with wine tasting and food. These tours also take you to discover another side of Tuscany ... the rural, authentic and typical! More info and reservations

/ And since we're in flour, another thing to do in Florence is to try the local dessert: Cantucci and vin santo (Hard almond cookies that are soaked in a delicious sweet wine!).

/ Stay speechless at the sights of Florence from Piazzale Michelangelo. Better at dawn when there is no one else, or at sunset, full of other travelers ... but certainly wonderful 🙂

/ Enjoy the best sunset in the city from the Santa Trinità bridge.

/ Look at the Tuscan accent: It's very funny since here they don't pronounce the letter “C” well… for example instead of Coca-Cola they say jhojha jhola.

/ Savor a panino with porchetta in some hidden square. Of course, keep in mind that a few days ago began to fine tourists who eat standing in 4 points in Florence (specifically in Via de'Neri, Piazzale degli Uffizi, Piazza del Grano and Via della Ninna).

/ Wander through Via dei Calzaiuoli and by Via dei Tornabuoni: the most luxurious streets of Florence, where there are the best shops and firms in the world such as Armani, Gucci and Versace among others ...

/ Stop to eat an exquisite Pizza or good homemade food. Check out the restaurant “To my house”In Via Pisana 165 or in Piazza Ghiberti 5-5 (thanks Bea for the advice!).

/ If you need to rest visit the Garden of the Roses: relax and good views guaranteed! If instead you want to continue enjoying all the charms of the city, but you don't feel like walking, you can get on a tourist bus! Here you find tickets on offer.

/ Visit the Fontana del Porcellino: If you put a coin in your mouth and when it falls it disappears between the grilles, you'll be lucky!

/ Make a getaway: Tuscany offers beautiful landscapes and cities like Siena, Fiesole, San Gimignano… if you have time, don't think about it! (Below we give you more information about the best getaways).

/ If you are passionate about Egyptian history do not miss the Egyptian Museum: the best of this genre in Italy after Turin.

/ Have dinner at Oltrarno neighborhood: Join the fashion of the Italian appetizer… pay about € 6-8 for a drink (we recommend spritz aperol) and eat whatever you want in a self service buffet! Specifically, don't leave without a good walk through the San Frediano neighborhood (which is part of the Oltrarno): LonelyPlanet declared it the coolest neighborhood in the world 🙂
