Day 3: ALGUER - STINTINO - PLAYA DE LA PELOSA - CASTELSARDO - ROCCA DEL ELEFANTE - STA. TERESA DI GALLURA - PORTO POZZO (HOTEL) - CAPO TESTA - PLAYA RENA BIANCA - P. POZZO

Saturday, April 23, 2011

The alarm sounds at 7.30 in the morning. Today we want to leave early, we have a tighter day than yesterday since we started the route through Sardinia by rental car.
The first thing we do is look out the window (which is one that gives the jail) of Hotel Aurasol and we see that the sky is much more cloudy than yesterday, but it does not rain !!
Last night we saw in the weather forecast that it was going to rain all day: I wish they were wrong !!
So without thinking twice, we hurry and in less than 1 hour we are ready and willing to “eat” this land with the rental car in Sardinia.
After breakfast we will load the car and head towards the famous beach of La Pelosa, located in Stintino.
We arrived in less than 30 minutes and parked right at one of the entrances.
We had read that parking was very expensive, something like 10 euros.

I imagine that being the day as it is, there is no one to control the parking meter, so we get out of the car like other people, without paying anything.
The sky is getting darker and that perhaps overshadows the landscape.
It makes us think that it is not as spectacular as they say.

The hairy Route through Sardinia by rental car

Yes, the color of the water is a beautiful blue, but the environment is not so impressive either.
If it is true that it is impressive to see La Torre de La Pelosa on the beach, it is something different from what we are used to and that makes us reject the idea that it is not such an impressive beach either.
We went down to the beach and there we are quite a while taking photos from all angles.
It gives us time to mount the tripod!

The hairy

The beach is quite small, so we can take pictures from every corner.
We plan to take out the towels we bring and sit for a while to rest, but suddenly ...
Mmmm ... a drop? I dropped a drop? Yes ... yes ... run that is starting to fall strong !!!
And so it has continued all day today: raining nonstop !!!
Well, not all day, it has been until Sta. Teresa di Gallura, which has been our last destination of the day !!
Seeing that the storm did not subside, we have decided to set foot towards Castelsardo, to see if it stopped a little.
It took us 1 hour and a half or so to arrive.
The roads are pretty good, but the rain and the car's engine don't allow us to go faster.
The landscape is green, very green. There are almost no people on the road, no buildings.
We observe that this part of the island of Sardinia is very "natural".
Almost without noticing we are less than 2 kilometers from the town that we have seen so many times in photos.
And although we have not noticed, it hardly rains. In the glass of the car we see some drops that fall shyly. Let's see if we have luck!!
We pass one of the last curves before reaching the town and there we see it, from afar, perched on the mountain.
It is impressive, despite the bad weather, the colors of the houses are spectacular.
We stopped on the promenade, at the edge of the road and there seeing that it continues to rain a little less (just a few drops), we got out of the car for a walk.
We take some photos and walk through the viewpoint.

We take out the tripod and get excited thinking that it may not rain anymore and the day lets us stroll through this impressive town.
But the illusion has not lasted long, until it starts to rain again ...
Walking in the rain does not bother us too much, but walking in a storm is another issue ...
We decided that we will go up with the car to the Castle and try to park.
At first we find parking right at the entrance of the medieval city, where we pay 50 cents for 1 hour. From 1pm, there is no need to pay until 4pm.
We imagine that in the middle of summer, surely you have to park at the faults of the town and it is impossible to get here by car.
We are seeing that time has tourists away. There is no one in the streets and the few people there are running.
We have not brought umbrellas. And we have not bought it either. Waiting for the weather to improve !!!
And now in Castelsardo stores, they don't sell umbrellas.
Well, nothing. We have no choice but to go to visit the town under a rain of those that creep, but of those that break deep!
Calan like the views we have of the town. Stunning streets, worthy of the best postcard.
We walk the town street by street. Going up and down ... shutting us to the bone.
But we resist, until we see the cathedral and go to rest for a while and shelter from the rain.
Here we are for a while, until an Italian family breaks our break who insists on reading a Castelsardo guide out loud.
When the volume of his voice begins to be annoying, we decide that it is time to leave and when we have 5 minutes and we are soaked again, we enter a bar that has stunning views.
But we can't see why the crystals are soaked!

Here we have a coffee and a cappuccino that tastes like glory and we chat while we wait for the weather to improve.
Half an hour and not only continues to rain, but it rains a lot more.
We see a couple of food plates that they take out for another table and we decide that it is best to eat here.
The pint of one of the dishes we have seen is impressive !!
The specialty is spaghetti, so we ordered a couple of varieties.

Castelsardo

And we can say and affirm that they are one of the best spaghetti we have eaten in our whole life !!!
When we finish, we order a couple more coffees and after talking a little with the waiters, we see that the weather does not improve. So we decided that it is best to go out to find the car and go to the new destination.
The bill rises just 30 euros and we do nothing but smile because for us it is a surprise that meals are so cheap.
From the bar to where we have the car we travel a couple of kilometers under a constant and quite heavy rain.
Now we don't even stop to look at the streets we pass through, which will remain in our memory of the trip to Sardinia by rental car, as one of the most beautiful streets we have walked, but from which we have not taken any photo.
This time we made the snapshot with our eyes.
We arrive at the car open to the bone and decide that it is time to go directly to the hotel, which we have in Porto Pozzo. And there we will decide to see what we do.
But before we go to the hotel, we pass by the Rocca of the Elephant (an elephant-shaped rock, which time has been carving based on wind and water), it is hard for us to find it, but in the end we hit it, it is just on foot of road!!

I see her from the car, why a good downpour is falling and I prefer not to get wet again, but Roger gets off to take some photos and when he gets to the car he is again soaked, if he does not catch pneumonia, he never catches it !
We get back on track and this time it takes us about 2 hours to get to the hotel.
The roads are good, but the speed limit is 80, so we don't want to risk the carabinieri stopping us.
We arrived at the Hotel Porto Pozzo about 4 in the afternoon and we found a full-fledged complex.
We check in and we already realize that the experience in the hospitality sector is minimal ... yes, the room (which is not a room, is an apartment) is huge! And all adapted for the disabled.
We lay down for a while to rest until about 5 in the afternoon, we see that it has stopped a little rain.
It is our great opportunity. We do not think about it and we are running to the car, to take course to Capo Testa.
It took about 20 minutes to arrive and we parked at the entrance.
Before we get out of the car we see that it starts to sparkle again and we suddenly begin to change our face.
But we are gut hearted and we set out to walk the path.
The views are impressive, so even though it starts to rain harder, we decided to go to the end of the road.
We reach the rocks that conclude Capo Testa and there we sit in the rain to admire the landscape in front of us.

Capo Testa.Route through Sardinia by rental car

We cannot deny that we would have liked more to have a sunny day, but we are glad to be here and above all to be able to see this wonder of nature.
So we will have the perfect excuse to return on another occasion, to be able to relive these 2 days with sunshine.

Capo Testa

When we arrive again at rental car We are again openwork, but completely openwork. The wind was coming to us, so to tell more ...
Just when we start the car it stops raining, so we think again that it is time to take advantage of it and we go to Sta. Teresa di Gallura.
It takes about 10 minutes to arrive and when we are in the center we see that there is a lot of atmosphere, so we go straight to leave the car and take a drive.
It has stopped raining, we hope it does not happen as usual these days. Every time it stops raining and we stop to see something ... in less than 5 minutes it falls again!
Just in case we don't get too far from the center and take the opportunity to buy some typical food and typical Sardinian bread products.
During the hour that we are in the town it has not rained a drop and it seems that the sky is a little clearer.
This is encouraged!

It's 8 and something at night and we decided that we've had enough for today, so we're going to have dinner and rest at the Hotel Porto Pozzo.
Before going to bed, we think that hopefully these 2 days of rain will serve to make the 2 that we have left “dry”.
Tomorrow more tour of Sardinia by rental car… And we hope you better !!
