How to arrive and schedules

the best way to get to Westminster Abbey in London it is with the yellow (Circle), green (District) or gray (Jubilee) subway lines going down at the Westminster stop, located 5 minutes walk from the entrance to the abbey.
If you don't want to go on the London underground, you can take lines 3, 11, 12, 24, 29, 53, 70, 77, 77a, 88, 109, 148, 159, 170 or 211 of the local bus.
Visiting hours: Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Entrance tickets to Westminster Abbey in London

The entrance fee to Westminster Abbey is £ 21 (24 euros) and you can book it here in advance. Keep in mind that the entrance includes an audio guide in Spanish that allows you to know the history of each room and not miss anything during the hour that usually takes the usual tour of the abbey.
It is also important to remember that the entrance is included in the London Pass, a card with which you will have free access to 80 attractions of the city, among which the Tower of London, St. Paul's Cathedral, the viewpoint The Shard, the Thames cruise and tourist bus.

Keep in mind that both if you buy the ticket at the box office and if you book online, you must make the same queue, which during weekends and high season can mean up to 2 hours of waiting.

With this in mind, a good time to visit Westminster Abbey in London and not queuing up, it is first thing in the morning, arriving half an hour before they open, or late in the afternoon.

What to see at Westminster Abbey

Among the most beautiful places to see in Westminster Abbey are:

  • the poet's Corner: In this room are the graves and monuments of great writers such as Charles Dickens, William Shakespeare, Samuel Johnson and Oscar Wilde. Other illustrious characters buried in other areas of the abbey are Charles Darwin, Isaac Newton, David Livingstone or the recent deceased Stephen Hawking.
  • Lady chapel: one of the most beautiful chapels in the world with a beautiful vaulted ceiling from the year 1512 and walls full of statues of saints.
  • Cloister: The abbey has four beautiful cloisters built between the 13th and 14th centuries.
  • Chapter Hall: This octagonal floor room impresses with its harmonious vaults and mosaics of the 13th century.
  • High altar: You can see a mosaic of the last supper, four statues of the apostles, the marble pavement of 1268 and the chapel of St. Edward.
  • Throne of St. Edward: It is the original chair where all the English kings and queens have been crowned since the eleventh century.

Although we understand that this is a very personal thing, we always place the Westminster Abbey, on the list of the best things to do in London and in the places to visit in London.
We believe that only seeing the outside of the church does not complete one of the best experiences offered by the city, whether you are a believer or not and it is that the possibility of seeing the beautiful interior and touring all the rooms of this abbey, more than compensates for the wait in the queue.
