CHRONICLE OF A JOURNEY TO ROME. YES, AGAIN

The night before a trip for a backpacker is a bit like the night before Christmas for a child, and on February 5 we couldn't take it anymore: Rome was waiting for us! On the 6th in the morning we left our car (mmm we have to find a name for it) in the Open Parking next to the airport of Alicante and after a flight of an hour and a half we landed in the capital of Belpaese.

Rome is always a success. Making it one of our favorite cities is a fact and every time we return we fall in love a little more too. Of course, pizzas help a lot, but more than our stomachs, the one that makes us come back again and again is our heart. Forgive the excess of ññeria but we still have hangover San Valentinera. It's over, we swear.

Three days in Rome

We spent 3 days in Rome and walked more there than in the last month!

The first night we went for a walk in the center: we passed by Coliseum, for the forums, by Via del Corso, by Fontana di Trevi, the Pantheon, Field of 'Fiori And of course, we stop at one of our favorite places in the world: the ice cream shop Giolitti. € 2.50 well invested in a hazelnut, chocolate and cream cone.

I'm still stung with Rober for having wanted chocolate instead of pistachio. Spaniards know a lot about pintxos, tapas and paella, but jolií, learn to listen to Italians about ice cream: pistachio is a must. In addition, you could not miss a dinner with pizza (and it was not lacking in the following days), please that it is delicious to eat in Rome (do not forget to try them, some fried rice balls with tomato and mozzarella, divine).

And since we are in the 'gastronomic recommendations' part you have to try the tiramisu of Pompi, a Roman legend. Well, now that we have gained 3 kilos by just reading this we continue with our chronicle.

The second day Roman we take advantage to visit the Capitoline Museums, where there is a beautiful collection of classics and where one of the symbols of the city is preserved: the Capitoline wolf. From there we walk to the Castel Sant'Angelo, one of the most emblematic buildings of the Italian capital and we walk to the Vatican where we verify, once again, that San Pietro impresses.

But above all we dedicate it to what we like most in the world, more than suck bread... is nothing but wandering! And walking and walking we did about 15 kilometers!

There was something that impressed us more than San Pietro: the queue we had to make the third day to enter the Basilica of Saint Peter(and that we had a VIP ticket to pass without queuing) Ours was not too bad, we had to wait a little less than an hour, but the other ... puff: longer than the soccer field of Holly and Benji.

Suddenly we saw how an old man was about to faint, luckily the thing was in a small scare and in a great miracle: as soon as the cop pulled him out of the tail and let him pass, he rose suddenly and came almost jumping to the basilica ... total thug life. Mysteriously, from that moment, people began to suffer fainting and temporary lamenesses that only healed once rescued by the safe. Miracle of the Lord!

This would be Mr. Malito ...

When we were able to enter, we freaked out with the amount of faithful (and not) there was: it will be the jubilee but on the right side of the basilica there was not even the hair of a holy shrimp! Of course, the church is still wonderful.

We exchanged the saints for the artists and went to visit the Vatican Museums, incredibly beautiful and full of surprises (the Sistine Chapel takes the first prize, but the gallery of the maps floated, impressive ... and what about the rooms of Raffaello, the Egyptian sarcophagi, the sculpture of the Laocoon and his children or the helical staircase? The truth is that the Vatican museums are the host. (Said with all due respect).

All right. The soul was full of art and beauty but our bellies demanded attention, so we had, much to our regret, what to make a stop: guess? Pizza!

In the afternoon one of our favorite Roman stops was waiting for us: the Trastevere, a lively, colorful neighborhood full of lovely corners ... From there we enjoy the walk as a dwarf to Field of 'Fiori, crossing the Ponte Sisto, the oldest in the city.

Before returning home we walked to the Spain Square, beautiful as always but rare: at the moment they are restoring it and its famous staircase was completely fenced (anyway, with the tiredness we carried on it we weren't going to be able to climb even 3 steps).

We arrived home shattered but eager to comply with the tradition of the traveling bloggers: in Rome we met Carola and Marcelo, two Argentines who write Traveling Journalists. Between one pint and another we learned that the Romans love the Argentines more than the Spaniards and that it is better not to open the door of the baths in Rome, eh Carola ?! Jijiji

Next stop? Athens! We will finally get our feet in Greece, we will finally know one of the cities that have attracted our attention for a long time!

- Alicante Airport Parking: We left the car in the Open Parking, next to the airport. An excellent transport and pick-up service when your flight arrives. Prices range from € 14 per weekend to € 28 per week.

- Where to sleep in Rome: We did it at the Marco Aurelio 49 Apartments.

- What to see and do in Rome: You have a very good list in this article. Also if you want you can get our "Guide to Rome, for first-time and repeat travelers."

- Where to eat cheap in Rome: here you have good options for cheap restaurants in Rome. A special recommendation to eat at the Vatican is Pizzeria Vecchio Borgo, in Borgo Pio 27 / a, a place of passage but where you can sit and eat a handmade pizza for € 5.

- The best tiramisu: in the Pompi, in Via della Croce, 82. near Plaza de España. Tiramisu costs € 4 and there are different flavors (banana, strawberry, pistachio ...). We tested the original and ... it really is deadly.

- The best ice cream: we don't know if the best, but one of them you find in Giolitti, in Via degli Uffici del Vicario, 40, near the Pantheon. The cheapest costs € 2.50 with the cream included, and is more than enough. Try the pistachio!
