One of the best discoveries of our last visit to Rome was, without a doubt, the Mercato Centrale Rome. We had already visited the one in Florence and we loved it, but this one in Rome has left us crazy.

Next we will tell you what exactly is Mercato Centrale Rome, what is your philosophy, and obviously we will tell you What are the restaurants and specialties? that you can find in this peculiar space, that will love any lover of good food.

If you want more information, visit our ROME TRAVEL GUIDE

It is an enoooorme space (it has 1,900 m² of surface, 500 seats, 19 gastronomic points and an internationally renowned restaurant run by Oliver Glowig), adapted to anyone and any pocket.

The Mercato Centrale Roma is synonymous with rich food, traditional market and the most advanced foodie influences. Come on, as if we love to explore thegastronomy... you have to visit it (and eat it!).

His motto is clear: the bontá é elementare (The rich is the simple), so it is immediately understood that the ultimate goal of the place is to get the visitor to enjoy Simple and high class food, prepared with fresh ingredients, top quality and obviously with passion (which is the feeling that unites all the great chefs).

And all this closely. Because not only those who walk with higher budgets on their trips have the right to eat rich.

We will briefly tell you all the dining options that you will find in the Mercato Centrale Roma:

1. Bread and desserts (Gabriele Bonci)

If you are one of those who always want a piece of bread on your table, here you will find your paradise. It has a lot of different types of bread (some quite curious), although our favorite option is undoubtedly the pizza cut. Delicious.

2. Trapizzino (Stefano Callegari)

Do you know what are the tramezzini? They are one of the most popular street food among Italians: white bread filled with the most varied ingredients. And you know what is the most beloved casual meal? The pizza, of course! So Stefano Callegari had the idea of both and voila: the trapizzino was born. Great, and it only costs € 4.

3. Truffle (Cristiano Savini)

If the taste of the nutty truffle like us, this is your place! You can try them in pasta dishes, in rice, eggs, soups and even in its most economical version: sandwiches!

4. Vegetarian and vegan (Marcella Bianchi)

Good news for vegetarians and vegans: there are more and more restaurants of this type, and the Mercato Centrale Roma was not going to be an exception. Here you can find dishes based on vegetables and legumes that have nothing to envy to the other stalls. The best? Burgers and mixed dishes (€ 8-10).

5. L'hamburger di chianina (Enrico Lagorio)

If instead you prefer to zamparte a traditional hamburger you will not have to go far. In this position you will find hamburgers, steaks and hot dogs. Yes, of chianina, a beef from Tuscany, with a very high quality. We already told you that you don't have to be a millionaire to try the best snacks!

6. Sicilian specialties (Carmelo Pannocchietti)

Uff, Sicilian cuisine is one of the best in all of Italy, and personally desserts already seem to us the best in the world. Here it would be a crime not to try a cannolo (who says one says two). Although if you prefer something salty try the arancini (Breaded and fried rice balls, stuffed with minced meat / mozzarella and tomato).

7. The fried (Martino Bellincampi)

Good frying is a true art: that it is light, nothing cloying or greasy, and with a lot of flavor. A good fried is an exquisite snack. Pizzitas, meatballs, and how not the supplí, one of the typical dishes of Lazio, the region where Rome is located. In the post of Martino Bellincampi they know how to prepare the true supplí, so if you pass by here it stings something here and you will not regret it.

8. Ice cream (Luca Veralli)

Every good meal in Italy should end with a delicious ice cream. It is also valid for a snack. And after dinner. And in the middle of the morning. Come on: it's always the perfect time for ice cream and this one from Luca Veralli is spectacular. Every morning they prepare those that will be sold during the day, and bet on classic flavors, but also more risky options and seasonal products.

9. Meat and delicatessen (Fausto Savigni)

If you consider yourself a carnivore, this is your place: grilled chops, ham of San Daniele (a small town next to Lety's house), sausages and much more. One tip: if there is a sausage or porchetta sandwich, do not hesitate!

10. Cheese (Peppe Giovale)

Whenever we return to Italy Rober freaks out with the amount of types of cheeses we have. And it is not for less: we Italians are very cheese makers. In this position you can try a few types (we recommend you to taste 5 or 10 pieces). You can also buy cheese to take home. Who wants a fridge magnet when you can leave with a piece of pecorino?

11. Fresh pasta (Egidio Michelis)

It is often said that in Italy we only eat pasta, although you are already realizing that this is a lie. But even if it were, it would not surprise us: there are two types of pasta, the Italian and the rest of the world. And the Italian is the best by far (sorry not sorry). Here you can try high quality homemade fresh pasta with delicious homemade sauces. In Rome you have to eat yes or yes one cacio e pepe and one amatriciana, the two star recipes. And this is a good place to fulfill this obligation. Price between 7-10 €

12. Ramen (Akira Yoshida)

Do you feel like ethnic food? How about a real Japanese ramen? For many, here you eat the best of all Rome: home made pasta, broth prepared for 10 hours and flavors that will transport you to the land of the rising sun.

13. Pizza (Daniele Seu)

You have to try it directly: Daniele Seu's pizza is one of the best in the city. You can choose between 3 fixed pizzas and two that depend on seasonal ingredients. Although we have it clear: margherita (€ 8) and that's it.

14. Artichokes and mushrooms (Alessandro Conti and Gabriele La Rocca)

Roman artichokes are famous, to know why it is best to shop around this post. They prepare them in different ways, all very rich. Also, if you like mushrooms, you're in luck. Tip: see how artichokes clean what art!

15. Sushi (Donato Scardi)

Sushi, futomaki, gunkansushi, hosomaki, nigiri, uramaki (with a few proposals for vegetarians too). This is the perfect place for lovers of Japanese cuisine. The bentos of this post are the bomb.

16. The wine (Luca Boccoli)

Every great meal should be accompanied by a good glass of wine. In Italy you drink a lot and very good wine, so you will surely find a perfect one for your dish. You can also buy bottles (there is a wide variety) to drink a little of Italy once you're back home.

17. The brewery and the cafeteria

If you prefer to eat with beer, don't worry: here you can try different types of beer. And after dessert, coffee, of course! In the Mercato Centrale Roma nothing is missing.

18. The pastry shop (Fratelli de Bellis)

Pasticcini (mini cupcakes), bigné, profiteroles, cakes ... we all know that we have two stomachs: one normal and one special, where there is always room for a dessert, even after a meal. So you know: eat what you eat, finish your foodie experience here.

19. Restaurant La Tavola, il Vino e la Dispensa (Oliver Glowig)

It is located on the first floor of the market and offers a top quality dining experience within the reach of virtually every pocket. Their chef has two Michelin stars and the menu has dishes that change according to the season. Prices? Here you can see the menu, but to give you an idea, the first ones go from € 14 to € 18, the second ones from € 18 to € 20 and desserts cost € 9.

On Via Giolitti 36, close to the Termini Station (in fact the space it occupies was, in the past, a dining room for railroad workers). Its rehabilitation contributed to two things: to restore this space to the true owners of the city (its inhabitants and tourists) and to improve the conception of the entire neighborhood (it is not a secret that the Termini area, until not too long ago, did not enjoy good press).

It can be accessed directly from the train station (through the Coin store) or from the outside, walking on the side where buses leave to the airports.

If we have not yet convinced you, let us give you 6 reasons that summarize our visit to the Mercato Centrale Roma:

It has some of the best gastronomic proposals from Rome, both from typical Italian recipes, as more innovative bets.

And with a variety that you won't find anywhere else: the best thing is that each diner can choose Whatever you want, in the same space.

Is right next to Termini Station, place we all go through. So you can have a good welcome (or farewell) meal.

It is not at all a tourist trap: Romans who live or work nearby eat here regularly and believe us ... they know good food.

It has a wide range of events artistic, musical and cultural ... come on, there the stomach and soul are fed there.

Considered the great quality of the dishes, is a place to eat with an unbeatable value for money.

That said: if you travel to Rome and want to live an unforgettable dining experience, don't miss the Mercato Centrale.
