Since we started traveling, every time we return to Spain we stay a few seasons in Vera Playa, very close to Cabo de Gata, so we can say that we know the area very well and it seems one of the great jewels of Spain. The Mediterranean breeze, arid, desert, wild and rugged land, full of cacti but far from being inhospitable: the Cabo de Gata welcomes (and well) everyone who visits it. Next we will tell you what they are the 8 most beautiful coves and beaches of Cabo de Gata.

Remember that all these beaches and coves are virgin, so surely you will not find any beach bar or services. Take everything you need to spend an excellent day, and of course collect all the trash you generate. In addition, Almería is a province where the wind usually blows a lot, the beaches are beautiful, but if you have a windy day, you may not enjoy them at all.

The name does not have good marketing, we admit it. But don't panic, the biggest risk here is to die ... but love (uyyyy, how cheesy haha). Actually no. This beach is a real wonder, so much so that in recent years it always appears in the listings of the most beautiful beaches in Spain! The name is because here the lifeless bodies of the shipwrecks that were produced in the area came to stop.

To get there you have to walk a path of about 15 minutes, for which we recommend wearing closed shoes (getting off is easy, going up then costs more, so try not to take half a house with you if you don't want to sweat the fat drop). It leaves from the parking lot (costs € 5 all day during the summer season) and reaches the first part of the beautiful beach, which is made of pebbles and crystalline waters.

Take your snorkeling goggles with you because the water is very clear and you can see little fish, especially at the right end of the beach, where the rocks are. There the current is smaller and it is the best area to go with the family (yes, it is where there will be more concentration of people).

Before leaving, and back to the parking lot, approach the viewpoint that is following a path and offers unforgettable views of that paradise. For us, the Playa de los muertos is the most beautiful beach in Cabo de Gata, don't miss it.

Quiet and very small (measuring about 200m), it is for many, the most beautiful cove in Almeria. If what you want is to run away from crowds and you don't mind hitting a good walk, this is your best option. Perhaps its greatest asset is to be isolated from the roads, although the place is fascinating, in a small bay limited by vertical white rock walls. The beach is fine sand and the water is quite clear. If you dare, take a walk through the fossilized dunes of the ends, to see the rock tongues entering and leaving the water, forming pools of transparent water.

It does not have direct access by car, so you will have to arrive from the town of Agua Amarga or from the Cala del Plomo car park and walk a path (approx 2km, about 30 minutes), or with kayak for the more adventurous.

It is not very big, so if you want to go in the middle of summer we recommend you get up early, but if you go in another time you will be much quieter and have the privilege of enjoying this piece of site. The good: if the day accompanies and the water is calm the sea will be beautiful, transparent and clear. In addition, as in the Cala de Enmedio, the rock formations and the fossil dunes that surround it are very beautiful. You can also do good snorkeling, especially when the water is calm.

The bad: the access is not the simplest since the road to get there is not paved and it takes an abundant half hour, to travel the approximately 8 km that separate the detour from the parking lot (I almost lost my patience!).

If you are looking for a hippie corner (not hipster) in Almería, you can find it here. Transparent waters, of a turquoise blue that catches, hippies of those of yesteryear (there are even those who live there throughout the year) and a unique atmosphere. Ah, we almost forgot an important detail: although it is not a nudist cove, many of those who frequent it practice nudism.

To get there you have two options: park the car in the parking lot that is 2 km from the town of Las Negras, on a dirt road, and from there walk another 2 km, or in boats, which leave according to season from the same beach of Las Negras (€ 12 round trip).

Located 3 km from Rodalquilar, Almeria mining town, this beach is another must-see if you travel to Cabo de Gata. Fine sand, spectacular surroundings and calm sea, perfect for families. At one end of the beach, built on a fossilized dune, is San Ramón Castle, a defensive bastion built to protect against pirate attacks, and that has been well mimicked among the golden rocks. According to what we have read, it was purchased for 1,500 pesetas in the year 1,875 and its current owners have put it on sale for, neither more nor less, than three million €. It is one of the best beaches to wear some booties or closed shoes and go out to explore the rock formations in the surroundings.

There is a parking lot near the beach, although it is not too big and is usually filled in summer. Early morning if you want to come here in high season.

We have a weakness for this small town in Almeria. Whenever we go we like it a little more. Here, specifically, we recommend you take a bath in the Peñón Blanco Beach. Although the beach is not a big deal, and it is also quite small, so that as soon as the whole town goes down to bathe it will have already been filled, it is worth a visit to this corner of Cabo de Gata to contemplate a beautiful postcard of the town and its famous rock, which gives its name to this town. Actually the first part of the name, the second refers to the Berber pirates who frequented these coasts. From the parking the views are phenomenal.

By the way, here are a handful of good restaurants where you can try local specialties and fresh fish.

It is one of the best known, largest and most frequented beaches of Cabo de Gata. Family atmosphere, relaxed and quiet. The sand is finite and the water clean and crystal clear. It is one of the best options of Cabo e Gata to go with children, because the water does not cover far enough and there is usually not much current. Do you know why it is called that? Exactly: the name comes from the Italian city Genoa, and that is how it was named to honor the Genoese fleet that fought against the Muslims, along with the troops of the Alfonso VII back in the year 1147.

On the right end of the beach you can see the "Morrón de los Genoveses", a volcanic promontory overlooking the sea. And on the other end are the remains of a Civil War bunker.

To get there you can do it on a path of less than 1km from the town of San José (which is definitely worth a visit), or in your car to the public parking (paid in high season). Be careful because the places are quite limited (216 vehicles) so you will have to get up early to get your place. If you have not been lucky, you can also take the city bus that runs from San José to Playa de los Genoveses and then to Mónsul Beach (€ 1 each way). More bus information.

Curiosity: it is surrounded by dunes and was the place of filming of several films such as Lawrence of Arabia.

Another great classic: Mónsul beach is a favorite of those who visit Cabo de Gata. It is close to that of the Genoveses and is characterized by its huge rock in the middle of the beach (La Peineta de Mónsul), which has attracted the attention of several film directors. In fact it appears in a multitude of movies and commercials, one of them Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade!). The environment is very characteristic of volcanic landscapes, with dark rock eroded with the wind and the strength of the Mediterranean.

The dune area reaches Monsul Beach and its back can be enjoyed a fairly large one: the Great Dune of Mónsul, from where there are very good views of the beach and the entire coast of this area of Almeria.

As it happens in the Playa de los Genoveses, there is a public parking (paid in summer) that closes once all the spaces are occupied. Early morning if you want to arrive by car, if you cannot use the public bus that leaves from San José (€ 1) or walk (walk a lot!)

Here we leave you a map of Cabo de Gata where we point out its best beaches and coves:

These are only 8 of the best coves and beaches of Cabo de Gata, but tooooda the area is plagued by beaches and super beautiful coves. Really, this Natural Park hooks and best of all, it is great throughout the year (the province of Almeria is one of the sunniest areas in all of Europe).
