If you travel through Southeast Asia, sooner or later, you will have to go through Kuala Lumpur. And although many travelers find it a city without any appeal, we are their unconditional lovers. Also let us tell you something: if you are one of those who believe that Kuala Lumpur = Petronas ... you are wrong!

We go through Kuala Lumpur 4 (or 5 or 6 ??) times and we never get tired: There is always something to do, some plan to join, some street-food to try, a new place to get lost and many traveler encounters! Cristian and Loida, Carles and Silvia, Xavi and Txell, Felipe, María and Francesco, Angie… Definitely, we love the capital of Malaysia !!

But what are the things to see and do in Kuala Lumpur? Here is our list.

/ Explore the neighborhood of Chinatown with its temples, its businesses and the street of fakes: Petaling Street (remember to haggle butt !!)

/ Ok, Kuala Lumpur is not alone Petronas, but the towers deserve a visit (or more): see them day and night ... they are incredible.

/ You can also go up to the catwalk that unites them, to have incredible views. The most advisable (and cheap) is to buy the tickets on its official website (80RM, about € 16.7). Remember that on Mondays and Fridays it closes, and don't forget your passport!

/ Binge of dim sum. And why not do it in a restaurant with a Michelin star? Its aboutDin Tai Fung, in the Pavilion KL. Ok, the one who won the star is the one in Hong Kong, but it's a franchise, so we assure you that it eats death (we have gone several times). In this post we recommend several restaurants to eat in Kuala Lumpur (good and cheap).

/ Sit in Malaysia, in China, in India, in America, in Myanmar, in Europe ... dozens of times, on the same day: cultural integration Here is brutal. You can explore the city at your leisure, as we did, but if you have little time this tour is a very good option. It costs € 33 and will take you to know the main cultures of KL (it is a bit the Malaysian version of the tour of contrasts of New York hehe).

/ Breakfast, at least once, roti canai: mmm

/ Feast on Jalan Alor, the most famous street food street in the city. But do it at night, which is when there is more atmosphere.

/ If you are interested in Islamic art do not miss the “Islamic Arts Museum”.

/ If you like sweets try the “indulgence chocolate ”, the best cake in the chain “Secret Recipe" But if you prefer to eat something exotic, look for “pisang goereng": fried bananas. Or the "cendol“, The weirdest dessert we ever saw, made with… well better find out for yourself, if not, there is no grace!

/ Go on an excursion: Batu Caves, Hindu, they are a perfect place to disconnect from the city though ... beware of monkeys. Going for free is very simple, but if you prefer there are guided tours (it costs only € 12) that will teach you a lot about the place.

/ Upload to some skyscraper to enjoy the skyline while having a cocktail.

/ Visit the Masjid Negara and the Jamek Masjid, the most beautiful mosques in the city. Mind you, check the schedules first!

/ Go shopping at Central Market (Besides the food court is very good!).

/ Move around the city for free with the GOKL buses (check out the lines).

/ Discover some of the muuuchos malls from the city: under the Petronas there is a very cool one with good, nice and cheap food court (although it seems the opposite). But our favorite is the Berjaya Times Square, with better prices and even a roller coaster!

/ Get on a train / bus / monorail and do not get off at the typical stops to know a Kuala Lumpur less touristy.

/ Explore Little india, how we miss India!

/ Don't drink the camel beer, unless you don't want a hangover hangover the next day (although ... take it away, dance it haha, what a great night!)

/ Disconnect from the steel jungle of the city in the KL Lakes Garden or in the Bukit Nanas.

/ Approach the Hindu culture in the precious Sri Mahamariammam temple.

/ Listen to prayers of mosques, we find them super relaxing, we love them.

/ Walk through Merdeka Square and enjoy its atmosphere (both day and night).

/ Discover the westernmost side of the city walking through Bukit Bintang, the golden triangle of Kuala Lumpur, full of business and luxury shopping centers.

/ Take a selfie with the other emblem tower of the city: the Menara Tower That looks like a UFO! You can also upload, yes, prior payment of entry 😉 You can book it here.

/ If you are a fan of electronics and technology you can not stop walking around Plaza Low Yat shopping center.

/ Try the satayGrilled meat skewers with peanut sauce: delicious! In this post we recommend a few more dishes to eat in Malaysia.

/ Do not miss a tour of some authentic market like 'Wet Market 'by Chow Kit.

/ Get lost in its streets in search of some graffiti and works of street-art.

/ Have a drink in theHeli Lounge Bar and enjoy the views over the city.

/ Arm yourself with courage and give the opportunity a chance Durian, the fruit with the worst smell in the world ... the taste is not - at all - bad. Although Felipe, Maria and Francesco disagree.

/ Breakfast at the Imbi Market... impossible to get bored!

/ Baby Teh tarik, the Malaysian version of the Indian chai, in some kopitiam.

/ Discover Little Myanmar, a few steps from Chinatown, full of business with the typical Burmese letters and workers with the smile always on their faces ... what memories!

/ If you have one more day, why not take a trip to the city of Melaka, with Portuguese influences and truly beautiful.

/ Come back! Like us, at least once more in your life!

There is much more to see and do in Kuala Lumpur like discovering the magnificent building that houses the old train station, eat an ice kakang, Walk the Botanical Garden… But you always have to leave something for the city to surprise you, and we are sure that Kuala Lumpur will do it!
