¿How to prepare the backpack for a long trip? One of the nightmares of each backpacker is the list of the essential things in his backpack. The decision to leave certain things at home sometimes is not easy, but it is necessary if what we want is to simplify the luggage and that the backpack weighs as little as possible.

Ideally, get the backpack to end up weighing some 7-10 kg. The size perfect for them to accept the backpack As hand luggage is 40-45 liters, is the one we have and we never got problems on our more than 50 flights through Asia / Europe with low cost companies. If you carry the essentials, surely everything fits you. It is also the best way to move on a backpacking trip, where you change places every little time.

After many brains of seso, remove and put, etc. we get each backpack weighing less than 10 kg. Ok but What do you have to put in your backpack for a trip to Asia? Here is our backpacking-list:

  • First aid kit, which we have talked about earlier in this post.
  • Oilskin.
  • Sarong / pareo or what has been a multi-purpose towel.
  • Palestinian or handkerchief that occupies little.
  • Document holder (where to put passports, ID cards, bank cards, university card ... in case the flies ... international vaccination card, international driver's license, license photos, and all duplicated in photocopy ... fundamental also scan all documents and send them by e-mail ... you never know!).
  • Destination Guide We are very confident in the Lonely Planet, what are we going to do.
  • Games (cards, dice ...)
  • Travel notebooks
  • Notebook of expenses.
  • Sunglasses.
  • Bum bag-purse (essential).
  • Small backpack, with all the technology:
  • Mobile.
  • Mp3
  • 2 cameras: small and large.
  • External hard drive
  • Laptop
  • Kindle
  • Tablet
  • Bag with charger-cables

The clothes issue is very personal. We usually take the minimum, since in Asia everything is cheaper and when we need a shirt, a swimsuit, or a pair of pants because it is bought and thus avoid carrying weight. Also do not think about wearing a garment per day, that is crazy, you can wash yourself if you take a bar of soap or use laundry services that are in most accommodation and on the streets.

This is our “closet” for a multi-week trip through Asia:

  • Underwear: 4-6 changes.
  • Shirts: 3, 4.
  • Shorts: 2, 3.
  • Swimsuit 1.
  • Long pants 1: this is interesting for some trekking through the mountains or some place of height that can be cold, in addition to some transports put the A / C to the top! But make it light!
  • Lightweight jacket: windproof style. For the same as long pants.
  • Footwear: lightweight shoes with a good sole (for example running) for long walks. Open shoes style sports sandals for everyday and flipflop. If you are used to walking with flipflop you can pass the sandals (although they are usually more comfortable). It is not necessary that you wear the typical trekking boots, because they are heavy and you will use them very little ...
  • Oilskin
  • Long piece of cloth (sarong style like this) to make a towel to dry the body, beach towel and blanket in transport to cover the cold. Very useful. Or a microfiber towel.

Well Lety also takes a little makeup for special occasions ... I know if Rober gives to invite to eat in a luxurious place (???). And a totally essential thing but you know how we are women ... a mini hair straightener ... that on the previous trip already tamed his rebel bangs on more than one occasion. That said, for a trip of these characteristics it is best to take as little as possible, and once there go shopping according to needs.
