Day 25: What to visit in the Bacalar Lagoon

Breakfast is served in front of the Bacalar Lagoon from 8 in the morning, so there we are on time to start the day with energy, also taking advantage of the fact that the day in this area of Mexico starts a little later, to go to the reception, the only place where we have connection, to be able to catch up a bit with work and more after these days we have spent without connection after visiting Calakmul in Campeche.

And so when there are a few minutes to 10 in the morning we start this new day deciding that the first thing we are going to visit in Laguna de Bacalar it will be the Cenote Azul, 10 kilometers from the hotel.

We park in the parking lot that is enabled right at the entrance and here we could say that we have the first disappointment of this trip to Mexico in 45 days and it is that although it is very early, we are already at the access door with a couple of buses and a queue long enough to access the site, which we have not read much or know exactly how it is .
Initially we had planned to have a quiet coffee and see the area, but seeing that there are already a lot of people and that the Cenote Azul looks, in a way, a social club, we decided to go up to a viewpoint that is at the top of the road to See the sights and also be able to confirm if this is what we are looking for or not to spend the morning.

We could say that the Blue Cenote it's not something else that a large freshwater pool, 90 meters deep and an intense blue color, which contrasts with the water of the Bacalar Lagoon that surrounds it.

Although we also have to say that in our case we have only seen it from afar, since we see so many people, that we intuit that this is not exactly the quiet place that we were looking for, deciding on the fly, take some photos and go directly to Bacalar, magical town, to spend the rest of the morning there.
Of course, we understand that this is something very personal and depends on the tastes of each traveler, and for us, as you have seen, in all our trips we try to find places where there are not too many people and where we can enjoy a little of that tranquility, So we prefer not to have forced experiences, which then do nothing more than tarnish a perfect day in places as incredible as these.

So we decided to head to Bacalar, stopping before to fill the deposit for 585 pesos, and from here go directly to the town center, where we are lucky to be able to park in a public parking lot, just in front of the San Felipe fort, which will be the first of the visits we make in Bacalar.

That is why we would recommend you, in case you want to enjoy this area of Mexico as we like, with few people and with tranquility and relaxation, that you are looking for an accommodation that is away from the center, where there are not many rooms and where You can enjoy Laguna de Bacalar, with privacy and intimacy, since it is an incredible destination, but little publicly accessible, to put it in some way.
After the visit to the fort of San Felipe, when it is approximately 11:30 in the morning we decide that the time has come to take a walk through the magical town of Bacalar, where we can get to know a little more of that local environment , which moves away a little to the much tourism that we are finding these days and that we understand is by the approaching Christmas dates.

After a walk that takes us through many of the small streets of the town, when it is 1:30 p.m. we approach Mango and Chile, one of the most recommended restaurants in Bacalar, where we ordered a classic hamburger, some falafel tacos more Two smoothies and coffees for 320 pesos.

Great! It also has incredible views of the Bacalar Lagoon, although more distant than other restaurants that are on the front line, but with a much more relaxed atmosphere than the latter.
