If you are going to travel one day to Milan In this post we will tell you what are the essential places you have to visit 🙂
Milan is a somewhat misunderstood city: the Italians (except the Milanese of course!) Think that it is ugly, full of pollution, industrial, gray and boring. And it is that Italy having beautiful things like Florence, Rome or Venice it is normal for other places to be criticized easily or simply to go unnoticed! Although I assure you that Milan is prettier than you can expect and has many things to offer.
But what to do one day in Milan?
With this small guide for backpackers we discover the most fashionable Italian city and give you some ideas on how to enjoy it to the fullest:
First things first, so if we arrive by train to the famous Central Station we leave, we catch the subway and direct to the jewel of the Milanese crown: the Duomo, for me it is the most beautiful cathedral I have seen.
Tip: book your ticket without a queue (with a lift to the terraces by elevator) here
A few meters away we will find the Galleria of Vittorio Emanuele II, probably one of the mecca of every fashionista that boasts. Here you can see the windows of the most chic shops in the city and step on the jewels of the mosaic bull that is in the center of the gallery: it will bring you luck!
This amazing place is one of the stops of the free tour in Spanish. More info here.
To eat there are two options: find a cheap restaurant where you can try Milanese food or save and enjoy the outdoors by eating a sandwich or a pair of Luini panzerotti at the Castello Sforzesco, former headquarters of the Dukes of Milan. And no, it's not from Berlusconi!
After the sandwich a little nap under the trees of the park is sacred.
In the afternoon we can soak up art at the famous Pinacoteca di Brera, where “El beso” by Franscesco Hayez and works by Caravaggio, Tintoretto, Rafael, El Greco and many more are exhibited among others.
But if Milan guards a masterpiece, this is Leonardo da Vinci's "Last Supper": we can admire it in the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie.
Ok, we are already close to ecstasy for such artistic beauty ... but do not think that the visit to Milan is over, there is still the most fun: spend the night in the Navigli area! Here, starting at 19.30 you can get to know the real Italian appetizer: you have a drink and included in the price you can go blind from the food of the buffets (pasta, paninis, sausages, cheese, pizzas, rice, and much more!) . An ideal site is the Spritz on Ripa di Porta Ticinese street 9. For us, a snack in Navigli, is one of the best things What to do in Milan in one day!
Do you have time? Make a mini-cruise for the Navigli 🙂
If you have more time available, we recommend you take an excursion close to the Italian city, for example, Lake Como, Venice, or Switzerland with the Bernina Express train (one of the most beautiful routes in Europe)
