As a friend who lives in New York, Lara told me: as soon as the sun rises, New Yorkers fill the rooftop terraces and enjoy good weather and a good cocktail. Fools are not, we already tell you: small inventions rooftop bars, those bars of heights on the roofs of tall buildings that give you great views from the sky of New York.

In this post we will recommend some of the best rooftop bars in New York, with only one condition: let them be cheap! Let's see, cheap according to "standards" of the Big Apple, but we guarantee that if you follow our advice, you will not pay more than $ 10 per drink, with sight included. Ready? Here we go:

It's probably the New York's most famous rooftop, and it does not surprise us: its views are absolutely beautiful, especially on the north face, since in front you will have the same Empire States. But that fame has a negative consequence: butt tourists! Which is normal, it is beautiful, it is in the very same Fifth Avenue and quite cheap: it has happy hour daily with beers at $ 6 and combined for $ 8 (happy hour menu). Tip: try to go around 5pm since after 7pm, when people have left their jobs, they get to the top (at night I don't even want to imagine it).

I visited this rooftop with María and Gema, two former companions from when I worked at Desigual. The initial plan was to go to the Spyglass, which is nearby, but as it was being renovated we ended up here. So by chance I met one of the rooftop bars quieter and more comfortable, in the central neighborhood of Koreatown. Unlike the 230th, in this there were almost no people, the feeling is of intimacy (although to put a but, the music was quite loud). Have happy hour daily from 3 pm to 7 pm, with beers at $ 7, glass of wine $ 8 and cocktails $ 10-13 (happy hour menu)

The best are undoubtedly the views of the Empire (It is just below it), also from there above you can also see the southern part of Manhattan and in the distance you can see the One World Observatory.

The area of Bowery and Chinatown It is one of our favorites and this place, located on the rooftop of the Wyndham Garden Chinatown hotelIt seems like a perfect stop in the area. Once up you will freak out. Personally it was the rooftop that we liked the most of those we visited, and it has views of almost 360º. Has two plants, the first one is glazed so it is perfect if it was cool, and the second outdoors. Tip: go between 5 and 8pm, happy hour, when the cocktails cost $ 12 Bogo 50%, I mean, the second cocktail costs half. Come on, for $ 18 you will have two cocktails (bogo = buy one get one), and beers at $ 7. (Happy hour menu)

We left this second stage in New York without being able to visit it, apparently they open it only during the summer season, but we had it very pointed thanks to its curious terrace with brick arches. From the photos it seems to us one of the most beautiful rooftops in New York, in fact when we passed by his street, we raised our heads and saw it up there, so close and so far ... If you go tell us if our feeling is correct!

Nor could we see this rooftop or enjoy its views, and it gave us a lot of anger: I was at the bark of our house (well, valeeee, of our Airbnb ... I am very well adapted to New York life, haha). Moreover, we saw photos of the site and from the terrace you can see our house (goodbye, "our" haha hopefully!), It is the yellow and blue to the left of the cross * _ * we want to return.

There are many rooftop bars in New York, others that look great and that due to lack of time and / or budget we have ruled out are:

  • The Ides Rooftop & Blue Room (Brooklyn)
  • Rare View (Chelsea)
  • Bar SixtyFive at Rainbow Room (Top of the Rock).

Although basically what you have to do is arrive, sit down, order your favorite drink and enjoy the panoramic views, it is good that you read these tips so that your experience is total:

  • Remember to take a identification document, they will ask you to enter. Yes, even if you are 30 years old.
  • Of course, if you have less than 21 years You will not be able to access the rooftops. Sorry little 😉
  • Almost all rooftops have "Specials" or "happy hour". If you plan to visit several, you better go during happy hour to save a little money, well, a fortune!
  • When you attend, the waiter will ask you if you want To open an account (open to tab) and pay at the end, or pay at the time of serving. For the first they will ask you for a credit card, only by guarantee, regardless of whether you will pay the bill with that card, with another or in cash. In the end they will return it to you.
  • Remember that the tip in bars it is usually 1$ For each consumption.
  • Try visiting several rooftops in completely different areas: the perspectives will be varied and every time you will be surprised.
  • exist rooftop tours in New York, we think it is better to go for free (it is cheaper and moving between several rooftops is very simple), but if you travel alone, you want to meet people or prefer to be guided, it is not a bad option. They will take you by shuttle to 3 different rooftops and you will have drinks included in each site. More info about this rooftop tour.
