Day 1: Girona - Porto

Thursday, April 9, 2009

Today we have to pack our bags and start organizing things to spend a few days outside in a destination that we really wanted for a long time: Porto. Late in the afternoon we have the Ryanair flight from Girona that will take us to one of the most beautiful cities in Portugal, from where we will move fromairport to the center of Porto.
We arrive at porto airport about 10:00 p.m. A small airport, but really curious. His name is Francisco Sa Carneiro and it is located 13 kilometers north of the city, in the town of Maia.

The idea to move from the airport to the center of Porto is to do it in Metro from the airport to the center of Porto where we have the Universal Residential hotel, in the central Avenida dos Aliados.
It took us a while to find the exit to the subway and after a few laps, we managed to discover that you have to go down to the bottom of the airport and from there cross the parking lot.

The single metro ticket in Porto It costs 1.40 euros.
We recommend you buy the Andante card, which costs € 0.50 and recharges as needed. Thus, for the next trips the normal rate is paid except the 0.50 euros that the card costs. The validation system is tactile, you approach the card to a reader and voila, you can pass.
In the transfer from the airport to the center of Porto it took us half an hour to arrive, getting off at our stop Allies, before changing Trinidade.
You can find more information about the transfer in this post about how to go from Porto airport to downtown.

Once in the center of Porto we go directly in search of the hotel that we have booked from home on Avenida dos Aliados, very central and with the metro stop very close, nothing better in Porto.
Once the check-in was done, well into the night, we went up to a room and found a hotel that is great, with a very clean, comfortable room with good views of Avenida dos Aliados.

Dos Aliados Avenue

With the time it is we decide that the time has come to rest, and that is that we have a few busy days knowing Porto and tomorrow really begins, our trip to Porto and Guimaraes.
